This week I mostly focused on refining the model and getting it ready for bringing it into the physical world. I fixed some faces, closed open holes, and fixed/simplified some areas like the hair/top/etc. I also added her little accessories! I made her backpack, backpack straps, and her goggles.

The first backpack I made was on the right. I didn't really hit the mark - it just didn't look solid, or robust enough I guess? So I got another cylinder, made it eight faces, and focused on keeping it solid looking as well as neater. My second iteration was a lot nicer, and looks more put together. I wanted to keep the rounded shape seen in the reference.
The goggles were also made from cylinders! I just inset the shape to differentiate the frame from the lenses. I then duplicated it and extruded the nose piece between it. When it comes to printing/unrolling, I'll make a copy and boolean it to the hair so it sits flush. For now, it's just clipped through the hair lol. I exaggerated the size a bit just to made it funner.
After that it was belt details, her backpack straps, and other little refinements to kind of give her model some interest. I didn't do her full tied jacket because I know it would be a clipping nightmare in the future - I also switched which side it was bigger on so it didn't run into the robot arm. And this will be the model for now!

I'm really proud of what I've done so far! From not knowing anything much about blender to making a custom character model is a large leap, but I'm glad I stuck to it. It's a relief to have her mostly done, as I'll now have this week to work on unrolling/adding tabs, or whatever else I decide to do to make her come to life. Some considerations this week will be:
Do I have time for UV unwrapping and textures? Or will I paint things on by hand?
Will we do the whole model, or only part of it?
And what will the end scale be for this gal? After talking to the professor, I think a larger scale model would be awesome, but I'll have to see how much time I have. If I do a portion of the model, like just her head, that could be really funny (like, what if I can wear it?)
