Proposal for Project One
A Tentative Proposal (´⊙ω⊙`)!
My idea for this project is to utilize this opportunity for flexibility to expand my skills as a character designer! While I have worked in 3D, I was always more focused on objects rather than figures or human forms. When I do character design, it's primarily with 2D mediums in mind.
But since I am in VSCH.429, which is video game character design, I thought it would be an interesting proposal to practice designing characters with the intention of them being 3D. I think it'll be a very important skill to be able to translate designs to 3D - and in todays landscape knowing programs like Blender is important for any illustrator to have under their belt.
Essentially; I intend to take the turn arounds and character designs I develop in VSCH.429 and use them in this class to create 3D models. I want to use this time to teach myself how to make effective, stylized low poly models that fit in with the video game pitch idea I have in the other class. I think by connecting these two classes, I'll be able to really focus on making a really cool end product for them both.
Here's some concept sketches of the character I'm thinking of modelling:
Is this Bespoke? ಥ‿ಥ
I would say yes! My end plan with the model is to 3D print it, as a figurine of sorts. As an object, it would be totally original: my own concept, character, and design. It would be custom made for the video game pitch book :D
Processes (ง'̀-'́)ง
I think I'm going to start in Rhino, at least to break back into 3D object design. But my goal is to utilize programs like Blender, which is popular with 3D character designers and riggers. Half of my purpose with this project is to gain some mastery or at least skills with the Blender program so I can add it to my skillset. Though, after surfing some tutorials, I think Rhino will be better for accessories like machinery/tools, since its more straightforward with polygons and faces of objects (from what I've seen, and also I've made things like that before in Rhino.)
Inspirations! ⋆(ㆆᴗㆆ)*✲゚*。⋆
These are some images I've gathered of what I want my end product to kind of look like. This project idea was mostly inspired by the game Mouthwashing (2024), as I find the models in that game really innovative artistically. They are low poly, but still really expressive and unique. There's also a few other games I'll be looking too, just in regards of how they stylized their models. The end goal is something in that low poly style, as I think its an interesting challenge (and I'm scared of 3D sculpting). I also want to stylize these models in a way that reflect my art style.
